My Week: November 24th – 30th

Level 3 counselling assignments continue to take up the bulk of my time, but here’s what else has been going on in my world from Saturday, November 24th to Friday, November 9th.

1: What I’m working on:

Identifying my conditions of worth

Yes, this is counselling homework, identifying those messages I may have taken on board about what I need to do in order to be valued by those I love.

For example, my parents have always stressed the importance of hard work, so it’s no surprise that these days I have a bad habit of working harder and for longer than is actually good for me.

It certainly makes for interesting learning.

2: What I’m happy about:

Getting back to the gym

I haven’t been to the gym since college started. I’ve been doing plenty of running in training for next year’s Manchester Marathon, but even that had to be put on hold for a few weeks following a minor injury.

This week, I got myself back in the gym and running on the treadmill. It’s the first step to getting back in good shape.

3: What I’m thinking about:

My Nan

It was a year ago this week that my Nan passed away. It’s made me think a lot not only about her, but about valuing the relationships I have with people in my life and how I should cherish those moments, no matter how mundane they seem at the time.

4: What I’m talking about:

Dealing with traumatic events without relapsing

This is essentially an updated version of a video I made last year, right around the time that my Nan passed away.

Here, I talk about how smoking, drinking, or using other addictive substances doesn’t help us cope with traumatic events and painful experiences in the way we think it does.

5: This week’s picture:

From a recent visit to Tate Liverpool.

6: What I’m looking forward to:

Finishing my next college assignment and starting work on a book.

I’ll let you know how it goes.
