It seems like there’s barely a month goes by these days without me finding the need to pay tribute to somebody who passed away.
In recent months it was the legendary Chris Cornell and his friend/Linkin Park frontman Chester Bennington.
This month, however, I was saddened by the loss of somebody I actually knew personally, a good friend of mine by the name of David Jones.
Dave (pictured left in the image below) may not have had thousands of adoring fans like famous rock singers – but to those of us who loved him, he was every bit as special.
Dave was a true friend in every sense of the word and -honestly- if I’d known the image above was to be our last picture together, I would have smiled just so that I could look back on this and remember the good times.
Live Life So It’s Standing Room Only At Your Funeral
It occurred to me that the best way to honour Dave’s memory was to write something about what I’d learned about life from his sad death.
I was in awe at the fact that it was standing room only at his funeral, and it occured to me that this is how I should be living my life – in a way that makes such a postive impact on so many people that when my time comes, it’s standing room only at my funeral too.
I wrote about this, and a few other reflections on a Medium article I wrote called:
Being The Black Sheep of The Family is a Blessing
Speaking of things I wrote on Medium, the day after the funeral, I finished a piece I’d been working on about family, fitting in, and finding your tribe.
I hope you enjoy it.
My Sleeping Karma
Before we go any further, I need to tell you about My Sleeping Karma. This band have been another incredible find courtesy of Stoned Meadow of Doom; my absolute favourite Youtube channel which serves up one musical gem after another.
Over the past couple of months, Stoned Meadow has become basically the only thing I listen to, and I’ve discovered some amazing bands, but few penetrated my soul quite as deeply or as beautifully as My Sleeping Karma.
I love this band, and I think you will too.
My New Instagram
No, this isn’t another psychedelic rock band I found on Youtube – it’s my actual new Instagram account.
For some reason, the old one got deleted so I had to start over.
If you like me enough, you can follow me here, though I warn you, my Instagram is mostly just pictures I take when I’m out riding my mountain bike.
Retro Pro Wrestling
And last but not least, we finish with a round-up of the stuff I’ve been posting over on the Retro Pro Wrestling blog. This little hobby has provided me with a much-needed escape this month, so as well as publishing a couple of brand new reviews, I’ve also re-uploaded a bunch of old content which is scheduled to go out over the next couple of months.
I’ll share more about that in time. Until then, here’s what I’ve been getting my geek on over this month:
That’s it for this month. Thank you very much for reading. If you would like my help with your next copywriting project, or if you have any questions about anything you’ve read here, please do get in touch.
