A highly driven professional writer, I thrive on channelling my creativity and passion for the written word to connect with audiences and add value to publications and organisations I work with.
Secure representation for my science fiction novel, Asylonia (complete at 97,000 words) and return to my first love of music journalism, albeit on a larger, national scale.
Freelance Writer – October 2013 – Present | Lowton, Greater Manchester
My main work involves helping small and medium-sized businesses to attract and engage their target market by writing effective, engaging website copy, sales literature, blogs and newsletters. I also support clients with web design, marketing, and social media. I do this through two small businesses:
Copywriter – March – October 213 | Wigan Council, Wigan
I wrote and managed website content for a relaunched site which received the highest score of four stars from the Society of Information Management and was praised for featuring ‘clearly presented and well written in such a simple, easy to read style [and] quality content.’
Freelance Communications Specialist – July 2012 March 2013 | Wigan, Greater Manchester
I empowered businesses and charity organisations to raise awareness of events and promotions by creating successful, mid-high traffic websites, and producing compelling media releases which attracted favourable, regional coverage.
During this time, I also started a small music promotions company. My biggest achievements here were increasing ticket sales in North West England for a visiting New York singer/songwriter, and promoting a sold out concert in Wigan in the summer of 2012.
Public Relations Support- Dylan Days Arts & Music Festival – May – July 2012 | Minnesota, USA
Combining my two passions of words and live music, I spent three months in the United States handling press and media coverage for multi-day festival in Hibbing, Minnesota, the hometown of Bob Dylan.
In this role, I was responsible for generating positive press, radio and TV coverage by producing media releases and handling enquires. A personal highlight of this role was sitting on the judging panel for the festival’s annual singer/songwriter contest.
Content Marketing and Event Support – Haigh Fest – 2007 – 2012 | Haigh, Greater Manchester
I was responsible for writing media releases, producing website and print copy, and interviewing featured artists as part of a content marketing strategy to attract larger audiences to this annual music festival. During this time, audiences grew from 5,000 to 9,000 per year.
My biggest highlight from this festival was acting as Master of Ceremonies in front of an 8,000+ crowd.
Music Journalist and Website Manager – The LINC – April 2004 – May 2012 | Wigan, Greater Manchester
Starting as a volunteer, I worked my way up to taking on full responsibility for the publication’s website, building from a small online audience to over 100,000 visitors per month. During this time, I reviewed both live music and recorded releases and interviewed high profile musicians, along with sports stars, authors and other notable names. My work was published both online, and in the print magazine which had a circulation of 35,000 per quarter.
