From guided meditations to work out tutorials, you can find just about everything you could possibly need to keep mind, body, and spirit in healthy condition on Youtube. So it should come as no surprise to find that the world’s leading video site boasts a wealth of ambient, meditation music videos that help create the perfect conditions for working.
Last week, I told you about how important having those conditions was for me.
In that post, we looked at the best places to find such music on popular streaming service, Spotify, but unless you’re already paying for a premium subscription, I can wholly appreciate how annoying and counter-productive it must be to have Spotify’s highly repetitive ads constantly interrupting your flow.
The good news, is that you don’t actually have to use that service at all, not when there’s such an abundance of great music freely -and legally- available online.
Here are just five of my favourite Youtube videos for focusing at work and entering that flow state quickly and easily.
1: Yellow Brick cinema – Tibetan Healing Music
I love Yellow Brick Cinema. I could happily spend days losing myself in their hours-upon-hours of gentle, relaxing music, ambient soundscapes and soothing classical pieces.
More often than not, I do just that, but when it comes to getting down to some creative work, it’s this three hour Tibetan Healing Music video that has to be my favourite.
I’ve been using this a lot lately whilst working on freelance copywriting jobs, and find it helps me to really drift off into a place where thoughts of anything other than the task at hand just drift away, leaving me feeling warm, comfortable, and ready to let the words just spill effortlessly out of me.
2: Brainwave Hub – Creative Thinking, Visualisation & Problem Solving – Binaural Beats & Iso Tones
There was a period in my life, not all that long ago, when I simply could not get enough of this fascinating and effective four hour video from Brainwave Hub.
Alternating between Beta, Alpha and Theta waves, this is undoubtedly one of the most powerful videos on Youtube for blocking out distractions, entering that free-flowing creative reverie and coming up with some of my best work.
I have to admit that I find the pure isochronic beats during hour number three to be painful to listen to, but this is easily solved by playing any of the other videos on this list quietly over the top of it.
3: ZenLifeRelax – 528Hz | Open Heart Chakra ➤ Love Frequency
Ok, I get it:
ZenLifeRelax uploaded this video with intentions that had very little to do with focusing at work.
Accordng to their description, this one is designed to:
“Activate, open, balance and heal your heart chakra [and] restore human consciousness to its full power and potential.”
I won’t lie, that appealed to me, and was the reason why I originaly watched this video in the first place.
After doing so however, it one day automatically came up as the next video in a string of similiar ones I was using to concentrate, and before I knew it, I had drifted off onto an entirely different plane, where I proceeded to effortlessly do the best work I had done in ages.
It was, and is, a beautiful, peaceful, and subtly uplifting video that I love returning to time and time again.
4: Warren010h – Concentration \ Programming Music 001
There are times whe the task at hand requires something much different than the usual gentle ambience and softly lulling soundscapes such as those you’ll find elsewhere on this list.
There are times, of course, when the kind of creative space you need to enter requires something a little darker, when your flow state needs a certain edge to it.
For those times, I highly recommend this masterfully curated playlist courtesy of Youtuber Warren010h. A mix of dark, often dramatic pieces from movie and video game scores, Concentration \ Programming Music 001 really does prove effective when you need that extra boost to your motivation and/or energy whilst getting the job done.
As a bonus, I could also recommend Noir Nights – A Cyberpunk Noir Soundtrack from Casie Mod, which I also really enjoy.
5: Yellow Brick Cinema – Relaxing Guitar Instrumental Music
Didn’t I tell you that I really have a thing for Yellow Brick Cinema’s wonderful library of music?
This three hour selection of mellow acoustic guitar tracks is beautiful as it is calming, and creates an atmosphere that is just perfect for drifting away into my own imagination at those times when what I really need is for new ideas to flow and inspiration to gently wash over me.
